For sailors, Ithaca presents three distinct experiences: a well-equipped capital (Vathi), scenic harbors with limited services (like Kioni), and peaceful overnight anchorages (like Skinos or Filiatro). Each has its charm and practical uses.
Vathi is the island’s capital and your go-to place for everything a skipper might need. It lies deep in a natural bay, protected from all winds.
Stern-to mooring with anchor. Along the quay you’ll find water and electricity pilars — accessible via prepaid cards available in nearby shops.
A small chandlery offers basic parts, and a couple of mechanics and electricians operate locally (ask the Port Authority). There is a fuel station on the eastern side of the harbor — easily accessible by boat.
For a relaxed morning coffee or evening drink, the café Karamela is a favorite among visitors, with great waterfront views.
The Port Authority of Ithaca is located on the waterfront in Vathi and handles all official matters related to vessels. Contact: +30 26740 32909.
Adjacent to it, the Municipal Port Fund of Ithaca manages mooring fees and infrastructure. Contact: +30 26740 32222.
